Since the beginning of the war on 7 October 2023, more than one month later, reports include 11,078 casualties, 4,506 of whom children, and 27,490 wounded in the Gaza Strip, and 180 casualties and 2,660 wounded in the West Bank. Israeli victims are 1,247 and 5,400 the wounded.
On October 13th, Israeli army ordered to evacuate the entire northern and central area of the Strip, including schools and hospitals; from that moment on, the number of displaced people has been growing up to more than one million. Over 778,000 civilians have found shelter in UNRWA facilities.
The Gaza Strip is a small portion of densely populated land without ways out or safe places to find refuge. In Gaza there is a severe shortage of: blood, medicines, drinking water, food, fuel to run ambulances and generators also in hospitals, essential goods and shelters.
The Association gathering the Italian international cooperation and solidarity organizations (AOI) has launched a fundraising campaign to ask for everyone’s contribution to a) send humanitarian aid to the population of Gaza and b) allow the organizations, which are still working in the Strip, to guarantee psychological and psychosocial support, and recreational activities to the hundreds of thousands of displaced children and most vulnerable people.
In addition to the unacceptable cost in terms of human lives, bombings have damaged hundreds of schools, healthcare facilities, homes, places of worship, roads, water infrastructures, media and television headquarters.
Gaza has been ‘under total siege’ since October 9th and the efforts of all civil-society organizations are now being channeled on the opening of permanent humanitarian corridors to allow the entry of life-saving aids, and on identifying safe areas to guarantee protection, care and access to the relief goods that will reach the civilian population.
